Don't forget your camera...

This is one of those stories from "back in the day".  It probably should stay there but I'm hoping it will serve as warning to customers leaving things behind.  Many years ago while working at a bustling tourist-infested restaurant in Florida a co-worker decided to take a few pics of his own on a disposable camera left behind by some unfortunate guest.  He took the camera into the men's room, did his business and proceeded to fill the 11 remaining pictures on the camera with shots of whatever gem he had left in the toilet bowl!  He then placed the camera in our lost and found and a couple of days later it was gone.  Whether or not it was the unsuspecting tourist who claimed it we'll never know, but if it was, I bet those were some vacation pictures he'll treasure forever!

I'm too old-school?

Just wondering if anybody else notices and/or is bothered by these two seemingly trivial behaviors? 1) Men wearing hats in a restaurant. 2)  People immediately diving into their food before everyone else at the table has theirs.  Maybe I'm old school (or probably just old) but both bother me more than I'd care to admit...

Actually overheard...

Today, while serving a family celebrating their recent college graduate, I listened as an older man (who turned out to be the graduate's grandfather) leaned over to another man seated beside him and whisper: "And I always thought she was too stupid to graduate from high school, let alone college!"  The other man chuckled in agreement and it was all I could do to not bust out laughing myself!

A question..ok, maybe a small rant

I love it (and by love I mean hate) when customers say "I don't mean to be a pain but..." and then proceed to do exactly that!  If you realize you're about to be "a pain" shouldn't you just stop right there?!  Admitting you are about to do something irritating doesn't make it ok.  In fact, I've occasionally stopped people in their tracks with this slightly snarky response: "Ok don't then; stop while you're ahead!"  For some strange reason though my tip seems to suffer!  Hmm....

What better way to start?

As this is my maiden voyage into the blogging-world I anguished over exactly what to write as my first post.  I chose something that I hope with your help will become a regular feature on Clock-Off, and that is: "I actually overheard a customer say this.."  So with that in mind...
While passing by the bar the other day in the restaurant where I work I actually overheard a customer say "Damn!  I need a shower.  I can smell myself from here!"
What made this worse, if it can get any, it was a woman.
